Saturday's shenanigans

It's the day the house becomes a bit more hectic than normal! We are joined by Lula and Archie on a Saturday my two step-children. As my 9 year old Neve attends acting classes (not that she needs them she's already a drama queen) and my 14 year old Olivia is usually at work, there are normally just the three children to entertain. Lula 10, Archie 6 and Chase 19 months old means it's quite difficult to find something they all enjoy. So with the four children today we have managed to stave off boredom with some baking and crafts! Today's delights consist of a banana loaf and chocolate flapjack. Hope you try these and enjoy!

Banana Bread
3 over ripe bananas
200g plain flour
tsp bicarb. soda
Half tsp baking powder
100g sugar
One beaten egg
75g melted butter

Preheat oven to 180.
Sift flour, baking powder and bicarb together.
Mash the bananas and mix with egg, butter and sugar.
Fold flour into the banana mix and pour into a greased 23cm loaf tin or alternatively 12-16 muffin cases.
Bake for 30-40 mins until you insert a skewer and it comes out clean.

Chocolate flapjack (or plain if you prefer)

250g porridge oats
125g melted butter
125g brown sugar
3 tbsp golden syrup
Chocolate for top (I used two packs of Lidl's own milk chocolate)

Preheat oven to 180.
Mix all ingredients together, except the chocolate, in a bowl and transfer into oven proof dish.
Bake in the oven for 15-20 mins until golden.
Break the chocolate into pieces and scatter on top while still hot
After a few minutes spread it round with the back of a spoon until even.
Refrigerate until set.
